Provenance

  • Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat
  • From the above to Robert Miller Gallery, New York
  • Andre Heller Collection, New York and Vienna, 1990-2017, Andre Heller, personal friend of Basquiat, purchased this work from the Robert Miller Gallery exhibition Basquiat Drawings in 1990 and remained in his collection ever since. The frame was made by Basquiat and Heller on the floor of Basquiat’s studio in 1987. Heller then put the picture in the frame after buying the picture from the Robert Miller show and it remained in the frame for the 27 subsequent years that he owned it. Thus, the two really belong together, although they were made at different times. Museums don’t like to show the picture in the frame and it wasn’t presented in the frame during the Robert Miller show.
  • Sold by Andre Heller, 2017
  • Andre Heller Collection, New York and Vienna, 2017
  • Acquired at Amir Shariat, Vienna, 2017
